skoool.ie offers secondary school students and teachers an opportunity to use this unique interactive teaching and learning tool as a platform to move into the new era of e-Learning. AIB’s role in skoool.ie is to enrich the educational experience of Irish school children by providing and promoting this unique learning opportunity.

Our involvement with skoool.ie complements our strong corporate donation programme called the ‘Better Ireland Programme’. The objective of this programme is to make a real and significant difference to the Irish community and in particular this year to the lives of children in Ireland. This programme had funnelled its energy and resources into dealing with three major issues that face many children of Ireland; the effects of drugs and alcohol abuse on children, education, and poverty and homelessness.

The Higher Options conference, jointly organised by The Irish Times and the Institute of Guidance Counsellors, provides students with all relevant information relating to college entry procedures in Ireland and the UK as well as training opportunities and career options. This year’s conference will take place in the RDS, Dublin from September 24th – 26th.

Intel Ireland

skoool.ie is the latest in a series of worldwide initiatives by Intel in the educational sector. The Intel® Innovation In Education initiative is a global, multi-million dollar programme focusing on preparing today's students for tomorrow's challenges. In 2000, Intel Corporation contributed more than $107 million worldwide to primary, secondary and third level education programmes.

Education is a major focus area for Intel Ireland.  Building on Intel’s mission of being a major force in improving science, maths and technology education, Intel Ireland have implemented a number of programs at both a local and national level.  These include:

  • Intel® Teach To The Future: This international programme, launched in Ireland in October 2000, aims to train 6,000 Post-Primary Teachers by the end of 2002 in effectively applying computer technology to improve student learning. More
  • Local Schools Program: Intel Ireland takes a great interest in schools at a local level. More
  • Young Scientist Exhibition: Intel Ireland sponsors a major award in the annual ESAT BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition. The Intel prize is awarded to a project in the Physics, Chemistry and Maths section of the competition. Part of the Intel prize is a trip to the annual Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, which takes place in the USA in May each year. The ESAT BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition takes place in January of each year.

Intel® Performance Learning Solutions

Intel®Performance Learning Solutions (PLS) is an innovative e-Learning solutions division within Intel that focuses on providing leading edge e-Learning and knowledge transfer products and services. PLS was responsible for the development of the award-winning ScoilNet education website, and has used its expertise in this area to develop the skoool.ie service. PLS also designs, develops and implements leading e-Learning products for internal customer groups.

Forfás - Expert Group on Future Skills Needs

Forfás is the national board responsible for providing policy advice to the government on enterprise, trade, science, technology and innovation in Ireland.

Forfás aims to lead the development of public policy for the promotion of enterprise and technological development in Ireland for the benefit of all by advising on policy to sustain competitiveness and growth and supporting and maintaining cohesion among the development agencies of the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment.

The Expert Group on Future Skills Needs is composed of representatives from the world of Business, Education, Training and Enterprise, the group was set up to develop national strategies to tackle the issue of skills needs, training for business and education in Ireland.

It aims to identify the skills needs of different sectors and to advise on the actions needed to address them by way of the promotion of education and continuous training links with business at national and local levels, and by improving job seekers’ awareness of career sectors where there are demands for skills, of the qualifications required, and of how they can be obtained.

Construction Industry Federation

The Construction Industry Federation (CIF) actively represents and serves over 3,000 members covering businesses in all areas of the Irish construction industry through a network of 13 Branches in three regions throughout Ireland and through its 37 Sectoral Associations.

The 37 different Associations are grouped in four key categories:

  • General Contractors
  • Mechanical & Electrical Contractors
  • Specialist Contractors
  • Home Builders

CIF was founded with only a small number of members in 1935 and has grown over the years to reflect the new business sectors which have developed in Ireland's construction industry.

CIF members now account for 85% of the output of the construction industry and in doing so play a key role in supporting Ireland's economic growth. Since 1995 the value of Ireland's construction industry output has more than doubled.

To assist members in this vital role, CIF has developed a comprehensive range of services for construction firms. They also monitor issues and trends, initiate proposals and act in our members' interests at local, national and EU level.

E.G. Pettit & Company

The Pettit Company was founded in 1954.  It provided consultancy services to local authorities on public works, and continues to do so to this day.  It expanded its consultancy profile in the early sixties into the industrial sector.  At the same time the company expanded its range of consultancy services with the addition of Mechanical / Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation and Process Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Architecture to its Civil / Structural disciplines.  It was the first multi-disciplined practice in Ireland.

In Ireland, E.G. Pettit & Company employs over 200 people.  They have offices in Cork, Dublin, Killarney, Limerick, Waterford, Carlow and representation in the U.K., U.S. and Africa.

In addition to their traditional disciplines, Project Management, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying / Value Engineering and Environmental Management Services have been added to the range of services offered. Their clients include Government Departments, Local Authorities, Multi-national Pharmaceutical and Micro-electronics Blue-Chip Companies.       

E.G. Pettit & Company provides all the necessary project disciplines from within its own resources.  It serves its clients from the initial front end study through the planning & permitting phase, the detailed design, bidding, and contract recommendation phases, to final construction management on site and close-out of the projects.
